Flexible seating for public spaces
 
TORINRANTA is a versatile outdoor bench that combines generous timber seating with a strong, understated steel structure. Its size, proportions and configuration can be adapted to the needs of each project, making it suitable for a wide range of public spaces and landscape designs.
 
The bench originated at Torinranta in Oulu, where twelve TORINRANTA benches were created for the renewed waterfront along the Torinranta street by the water. Here, each bench forms a four-sided frame around a newly planted tree, bringing seating and greenery together while offering views in every direction.
 
The beautiful original concept was designed by VSU Maisema-arkkitehdit specifically for Torinranta. ABAU DESIGN developed the concept further to design the steel frame structure, creating a practical and durable construction. What began as a site-specific solution has since developed into an adaptable product for many different environments.
 
Designed to adapt
 
The defining idea behind TORINRANTA is not one particular shape, but its ability to respond to the place where it is used. Different configurations and dimensions allow the bench to frame or organise a space according to the landscape, architecture and intended use.
 
This makes TORINRANTA an interesting solution for squares, promenades, parks, residential and office courtyards, school grounds and other public environments – whether used to integrate seating with greenery, define a particular area or create a meeting point.
 
Made for demanding environments
 
TORINRANTA combines robust timber seating with a durable steel structure. For the original Oulu installation, high-quality oak and stainless steel were selected to withstand the demanding waterfront conditions, including wind, moisture and salty air. The warmth and natural character of oak are balanced by the clean, contemporary appearance of stainless steel.
 
Materials and finishes can be selected according to the requirements and character of each project.
