Swings in Pukkila
In the summer of 2024, ABAU DESIGN took part in the transformation of the historic Pukkila tile factory site in Turku. Collaborating with Oteran Oy, we designed and installed custom-made furniture on a scenic hilltop overlooking the newly built residential area.
Pukkila is famous across Finland for its ceramic tile production. The conversion of its former factory grounds into a modern residential neighborhood represents a shift towards sustainable urban development. Our furniture plays a role in shaping this new environment into a welcoming and functional space for residents.
This project also marked a milestone for ABAU DESIGN – the introduction of our first-ever swing! The three-piece swing, composed of 3-meter-wide sections, was designed to provide a smooth, gentle motion, offering adults a peaceful place to pause and unwind.
Seated on the swing, visitors can take in panoramic views of the new neighborhood, relax, appreciate the surroundings, and enjoy quiet moments.
The Pukkila swing set consists of three swings arranged at a subtle angle. It can be installed as a single unit or as part of a series, with swings positioned either in a straight line or at varying angles. The robust steel frame was coated in a RAL color selected to complement the site, while the benches were crafted from naturally weathering larch. A range of finishes and wood options are available to suit different settings.
